In Vian, Oklahoma, the Price family is at the heart of a unique animal rescue story. Kathy Price, a local resident, discovered a stray tortoiseshell cat on her porch, which quickly became a part of their household. This cat, once someone’s pet, had lost her way and found solace with the Prices.
Not long after her arrival, the Prices realized the cat was pregnant. They prepared a cozy spot for her on their porch, and on Memorial Day, she gave birth to five kittens. The litter consisted of three orange and two gray kittens. However, the Prices were in for a surprise when they discovered an unexpected addition—a baby rabbit among the kittens.
A Surprising Addition
The family was initially puzzled by the rabbit’s presence but soon learned that it’s not uncommon for cats to adopt other animals. Kathy Price shared, “Cats are famous for being such good mothers, and they will frequently adopt another kitten that doesn’t have a mom or even a puppy or a rabbit.” The mother cat has embraced the rabbit as her own, nursing and caring for it alongside her kittens.
Under the mother cat’s care, all five kittens and the rabbit are thriving. The rabbit, in particular, is doing well, hopping around and growing under the watchful eye of its feline mother.
Seeking Forever Homes
Despite their attachment to the animals, the Prices are seeking permanent homes for the kittens and the rabbit. Kathy Price explained, “We live on the highway, and it’s just not a good place for kittens to thrive.” She hopes to find a generous adopter willing to take in the mother cat and her kittens, allowing them to grow in a safe environment.
As for the rabbit, once it is big enough, it can be released into the wild. Price is particularly hopeful that the mother cat, who has endured a difficult journey, will find a secure and loving home.
This heartwarming story highlights the compassion and care the Price family has shown to these animals, reflecting the values of family and community support.
