The Fort Phil Kearny/Bozeman Trail Association is inviting Sheridan residents to honor Veterans Day with two educational talks on Sunday, November 8, at Kearney Hall. Both presentations are free and open to the public, beginning at 1 p.m.
Spanish‑American War Spotlight
Retired U.S. Navy officer HB Puckett will open the program with a lecture titled “The Splendid Little War, the Spanish‑American War.” Puckett will detail how Wyoming soldiers contributed to the conflict, noting that the Wyoming National Guard was deployed in 1898 to the Philippines. He will highlight Company G from Sheridan and Company C from Buffalo, underscoring the local men who answered the call.
Antarctica Connections
Following Puckett, retired Navy officer Susan Wells will present “Antarctica: US Navy & Wyoming Ties.” Wells will explain the historic role of Wyoming National Guard and Air National Guard members who have served on the continent, reinforcing the state’s longstanding partnership with the Navy’s polar missions.
These talks provide a unique opportunity for families, veterans, and anyone interested in Wyoming’s military contributions to learn from seasoned officers. The event aligns with the community’s tradition of honoring service members and preserving local history.
