VENTURA, Calif. – An artist who lives on a boat in Ventura’s West Marina is being celebrated by her friends and neighbors. They put on an art show of her work at Ventura Portside, featuring over 100 pieces of art.
Helping a Friend in Need
Chris Hammersley, the 81-year-old artist, paints in watercolors, acrylics, charcoal, and pen and ink. Her friends wanted to help her with upcoming surgeries, so they organized the art show. The art is not for sale yet, but money raised in the future will help the artist with healthcare.
Jill Creager, who also lives in the harbor, said they went through the artist’s storage unit and found over 850 pieces of art. The art had been carried from storage unit to storage unit, from London and France to the U.S.
