Vehicle Incident at Detroit Airport Highlights Safety Concerns

A 67-year-old man was detained after driving a vehicle into a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Friday morning. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., was reportedly linked to a mental health crisis, as the driver claimed he was there to meet with actor Tom Cruise and save his father.

Incident Details

According to Tadarial Sturdivant, the airport authority’s senior vice president of emergency and support services and operations, the driver navigated slowly around barricades and through the airport doors. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Michigan state Rep. Jaime Greene shared photos taken by her husband, showing law enforcement vehicles outside the terminal. Witnesses inside the terminal described the scene as chaotic, with people, including children, running in different directions to avoid the vehicle.

Previous Incidents

This marks the second such incident at the Detroit airport in recent months. In January, another vehicle crashed into a check-in area, resulting in six people receiving medical attention. The driver in that case was also taken into custody.

Airport operations resumed normalcy shortly after the incident, and officials are reviewing safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.
