A mysterious vandalism incident occurred on the National Mall in Washington D.C. when someone marked ‘8647’ in large numbers on the grass of the west lawn. The numbers, which appear as brown spots in the lawn, are visible from the top of the Washington Monument.
Investigation Underway
The U.S. Park Police responded to the incident and are currently investigating the cause of the discoloration. Grass samples have been collected for testing, and the Department of the Interior has condemned the vandalism, calling it ‘deranged’ and stating that any threat against the President will be taken seriously.
The numbers ‘8647’ have been used by some opponents of President Donald Trump to protest his second administration. The phrase is believed to be a reference to the idea of ‘getting rid of’ something, with ’86’ being a term used in the hospitality industry to mean ‘get rid of’ and ’47’ referring to Trump’s position as the 47th U.S. President.
