A Vance man has been jailed more than a month after a deputy-involved shooting that killed his sister. Ricky Adkins, 36, was shot by Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies during a warrant service at a Gladys Drive residence in Vance. Adkins’ sister, Kristie Lynn Adkins, 43, was also shot and died at the scene.
According to court documents, Adkins was wanted on an active felony warrant for pointing a pistol at a neighbor during a confrontation over reckless ATV driving. When deputies arrived to arrest him, Adkins produced a BB gun designed to resemble a semi-automatic rifle and pointed it at deputies, who opened fire.
Adkins has been formally charged with manslaughter, menacing, and illegally possessing a firearm. He is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $30,300 bond.
