Vice President JD Vance remains the clear frontrunner for the 2028 Republican presidential primary, according to a recent poll by The Center Square. The poll, conducted from June 1-4, 2026, surveyed 915 Republicans and 149 right-leaning Independents, and found that Vance secured 36% of the vote, roughly twice as much as the next top contender, Marco Rubio, who received 17%.
Poll Results
Seventeen percent of voters indicated they were unsure of who they would support in 2028. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in third with 7% of the vote. Other notable candidates included Ted Cruz, Tim Scott, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy, but they all trailed behind Vance and Rubio.
Vance performed well across various demographics, including younger voters, with 43% of 18-29-year-olds supporting him. He also polled well among people who voted for President Donald Trump in the last election and in the Northeast region of the country.
Rubio, on the other hand, performed better among male respondents than females, with 21% and 14% of the vote, respectively. He also polled well among those with at least some college education and among Hispanics and Latinos.
The poll did not include Donald Trump Jr., who had previously been a strong contender, as he recently stated that he had “zero interest” in running for office in 2028.
