Valley Man’s Dream Realized as Honorary Phoenix Police Officer

In a heartwarming event in Phoenix, 21-year-old Devyn Landry, who has Down Syndrome, experienced his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. This was made possible through Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona’s ‘Best Day Ever’ initiative, which aims to fulfill the dreams of adults with Down Syndrome.

A Day to Remember

Devyn’s special day was marked by a series of activities organized by the Phoenix Police Department. Lt. Vince Lewis expressed the department’s enthusiasm, stating, “Today we’re here to celebrate our newest honorary police officer.” The day included K9 and air support demonstrations, a tour of the Police Academy and Headquarters, and an official swearing-in ceremony where Devyn received a personalized badge.

Devyn’s mother, Heather Tedmon, shared her joy, saying, “It’s his favorite thing. This is the best thing ever, it really is. I hope it goes well for him today and I hope he learns a lot.” The event was not only a dream come true for Devyn but also a testament to the power of community support and the impact of organizations like Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona.

Community Impact

Vicki Heath, representing Sharing Down Syndrome Arizona, highlighted the significance of such events, noting, “Everybody is touched. Talk about a win-win, in this situation, everybody wins.” The non-profit has been dedicated to making wishes come true for adults with Down Syndrome for a decade, bringing joy and fulfillment to many families.

For Devyn and his family, the day was overwhelming in the best way possible. “I’m just blown away and super thankful,” Tedmon said, reflecting the gratitude and happiness that filled the day.
