Valley Communities Honor Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day

In the Valley, communities are coming together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country this Memorial Day. Various events are scheduled across the region, offering opportunities for residents to pay their respects.

National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona

The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix will host a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony starting at 8 a.m. The event is open to the public and will feature remarks from Governor Katie Hobbs, alongside service members and veterans.

Heard Museum

The Heard Museum is dedicating its Memorial Day observance to honoring Indigenous veterans. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with a flag-raising, followed by drum songs in remembrance of fallen veterans. A storytelling session will be held at noon, led by the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, with an open mic for public participation.

City of Avondale

Avondale will hold its Memorial Day Ceremony at the Civic Center Amphitheater at 8:30 a.m. The event will include a musical tribute and a commemorative flag presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

North West Valley Veterans Association

Sun City will host a ceremony at Sunland Memorial Park at 9 a.m., featuring a flyover by the Falcon War Birds in vintage military aircraft at 9:30 a.m. The event will include a special tribute to military nurses and veterans from all branches, followed by a barbeque buffet sponsored by Dignity Health.

San Tan Memorial Gardens

The 10th Annual Memorial Day Service at San Tan Memorial Gardens at Schnepf Farms will begin at 9 a.m. The ceremony will feature guest speakers, a flag presentation, music, and an airplane flyover. A blood drive will also be available from 9 a.m. to noon.

Mountain View Funeral Home

Mountain View Funeral Home in Mesa will hold a ceremony at 8 a.m., including wreath-laying, military honors, and music to honor fallen service members.
