UT Board of Trustees to Review Tuition and Fee Increases Across Campuses

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees is set to evaluate proposed increases in tuition and mandatory fees across several campuses during its annual meeting on June 30. These changes could affect students at UT Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin, and Southern.

Proposed Changes at UT Knoxville

While undergraduate students at UT Knoxville will not face a tuition hike, they may see an increase in mandatory fees by $148. University officials state that this adjustment is necessary to accommodate a 20% growth in the undergraduate student population over the past five years.

Impact on UT Chattanooga

Students at UT Chattanooga could experience a $192 increase in tuition and a $130 rise in mandatory fees. The majority of these funds are intended to support the portion of the 1.5% salary pool not fully covered by state appropriations. Additionally, the funds will aid student scholarships, retention initiatives, staffing, operational needs, and new nursing faculty positions.

UT Martin’s Financial Adjustments

At UT Martin, tuition could increase by $272, with mandatory fees rising by $52. The additional revenue is earmarked for instructional support, student services, scholarships, faculty and staff promotions, fixed cost increases, and a portion of the 1.5% salary pool not fully covered by state appropriations.

UT Southern’s Proposed Increases

Students at UT Southern might see tuition rise by $298 and mandatory fees by $40. University officials indicate that these funds will help offset inflationary pressures on daily operations and contribute to improvements in information technology and student support services.

The university has opened a public comment period on these proposals, allowing feedback until June 22 at 6 p.m. EST.
