The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has shared aerial footage of Kilauea, a volcano located in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. The footage was taken during a helicopter flight over the volcano on June 24.
Kilauea’s Ongoing Eruption
Kilauea has been in the midst of an ongoing eruption since December 23, 2024, with intermittent eruptions within the summit caldera. The USGS has been monitoring the volcano’s activity, including the emission of volcanic gases and the movement of magma.
The USGS team also collected warm lava samples from the volcano’s recent eruption, which will be used to study the eruption’s activity and provide data on magma chemistry and underground storage conditions.
