US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Colombia’s newly inaugurated government, led by President Abelardo de la Espriella, has requested US collaboration in joint military operations to combat narco-terrorism.

The US will join forces with Colombia to destroy terrorists and terror networks. Colombia will also join the Shield of the Americas initiative, becoming its 19th member. This initiative aims to join forces with Latin American countries to fight drug cartels.

Hegseth urged Latin American countries not to recognize the International Criminal Court (ICC), arguing that US efforts to combat narco-terrorism are entirely legal under international humanitarian law.
