The conflict between the US and Iran has escalated, with both sides launching attacks on each other. The US has targeted Iranian military sites, including logistics infrastructure, while Iran has responded with missile strikes on Gulf states, including Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan.
US Strikes on Iranian Military Sites
The US military’s Central Command said it had conducted a series of strikes on Iranian military sites, including surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities. The US said its forces employed fighter aircraft, aerial drones, and warships in the attacks.
Iranian media reported that several missiles struck power facilities and desalination pumps in the southern Iranian city of Jask, causing damage and disrupting drinking water supplies. The US said its forces had redirected four commercial vessels, disabled one, and boarded another to enforce its naval blockade of Iran.
Iran’s Response
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had attacked a depot of US drones in Bahrain and destroyed Bahrain’s main artificial intelligence centre with ballistic missiles and drones. Iran’s navy also fired a shore-to-sea cruise missile towards a US vessel in the northern Indian Ocean, causing the vessel to move out of range.
The conflict has raised concerns about the impact on global oil supplies, with oil prices climbing more than 4% on Friday to their highest level in more than a month. The US and Iran have been testing the limits of escalation since their ceasefire agreement collapsed last week, raising the prospect of a return to all-out war.
