US Family Finds New Home in Italy

A US Navy veteran and his family made the unexpected decision to leave their home in Virginia and start a new life in Italy. Jason Salesberry, who had never been to Italy before, was drawn to the country’s culture and way of life. He and his wife, Sherry, a fellow US Navy veteran, decided to take a chance and move to Naples with their young daughter.

A New Life in Italy

The family’s decision to move to Italy was not just about a change of scenery, but also about finding a safer and more stable environment for their daughter. Jason was concerned about the rising crime rates in their hometown of Chesapeake, Virginia, and wanted to provide a better life for his family. After applying for a position at a military base near Naples, Jason was hired, and the family made the move in October 2017.

Initially, the family struggled to adjust to the local culture and way of life. They had to learn to navigate the complex traffic system, adapt to the slower pace of life, and learn the local language. However, as they settled in, they began to appreciate the beauty of Italy and the warmth of its people. They fell in love with the local food scene, the historic towns, and the stunning landscapes.

A New Chapter

Nine years after their move, the Salesberry family has found a new sense of purpose and belonging in Italy. They have purchased a home in the town of Caiazzo, where they are surrounded by olive trees and a beautiful countryside. Jason and Sherry are now working on renovating their property and learning about the local agriculture. They are excited to start their new life in the Italian countryside and to become a part of the local community.
