Two men have been arrested in connection to the death of an American Airlines flight attendant who went missing in Medellín, Colombia, earlier this year. Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina, a 32-year-old US citizen based out of Dallas-Fort Worth, was reported missing on March 22.
Investigation and Arrests
Gutierrez arrived in Medellín on March 21 on a flight from Miami and was scheduled to return to the US the following morning. According to local reports, Gutierrez and another colleague decided to leave the hotel and go out on the town. They met two guys at a club and decided to leave when the club closed. The co-worker returned to the hotel early Sunday, but she was disoriented.
Gutierrez never made it back to the hotel. His body was found days later in a rural area between the Jericó and Puente Iglesias municipalities, in the northeast region of the country. The U.S. Embassy in Bogota, Colombia, announced the arrest of two men in connection to Gutierrez’s death. One of the suspects has been transferred to Colombia to face charges, and the other is awaiting extradition.
Medellín Security Secretary Manuel Villa Mejía said investigators had identified the people last seen with Gutierrez and that they had a history of committing theft using scopolamine, an incapacitating drug known as devil’s breath. Villa said, This case will not go unpunished. The authorities are working to clarify the facts and capture those responsible.
