Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa has defended his unorthodox pose in his official World Cup portrait, stating he owes no explanation for the photo.
Bielsa’s picture, which shows him with his head bowed and eyes downcast, has sparked a string of memes on social media.
When asked about the pose, Bielsa told reporters, “I don’t have to give any explanation. The picture was taken the way it was taken. I’m not a model. I have no answer for that.”
Bielsa, known for his idiosyncratic approach to coaching, has previously attracted attention for his unique methods.
Uruguay will return to Miami for their second group game against Cape Verde on Sunday.
