The University of St. Thomas has begun construction on a new five-story residence hall, which will provide housing for approximately 400 additional students. The residence hall is located just north of Guinan Residence Hall near West Alabama Street and Graustark Street.
Project Details
The new residence hall will span about 100,000 square feet and feature modern living spaces, study and collaboration spaces, lounge areas, an outdoor courtyard, and a chapel. This project aims to meet the demand for housing while strengthening student engagement and campus life.
According to the university, the project is funded by fundraising efforts, including an anonymous $11 million gift and an $8 million gift from the Sarofim Foundation. Other seven-figure donations were also received from foundations such as The Brown Foundation, Cullen Trust for Higher Education, and The Elkins Foundation.
UST President Dr. Sinda Vanderpool stated, “These transformational gifts are helping create a true home away from home for our students. We are deeply grateful for the generosity and vision of the Sarofim Foundation and others, whose support is making it possible for more students to live on campus and fully experience the academic, spiritual, and community life of UST.”
The new building is expected to open in fall 2028.
