Universities Offer Degrees in Content Creation

As the influencer economy continues to grow, universities are taking notice. Arizona State University and Syracuse University have recently announced new degree programs in content creation, catering to the increasing number of young people who want to become influencers.

A New Career Path

The programs aim to prepare students for careers in content creation, digital entrepreneurship, and the broader ecosystem supporting creators and online businesses. With the creator economy estimated to be worth nearly $500 billion by 2027, according to Goldman Sachs, it’s no wonder that universities are investing in these programs.

Arizona State University’s bachelor’s degree in content creation includes courses such as “How to Become an Influencer” and a capstone at the school’s Los Angeles Content Creation Studio. Syracuse University’s interdisciplinary minor in content creation will prepare students for careers in content creation, digital entrepreneurship, and the broader ecosystem supporting creators and online businesses.

A Hyper-Competitive Industry

However, experts warn that the influencer market is oversaturated, and success is not guaranteed. “Influencing has a success rate about equal to acting,” said Freddy Tran Nager, an associate professor at the University of Southern California. To stand out, aspiring influencers need to find a niche and develop a unique voice.

Despite the challenges, the influencer economy shows no signs of slowing down. With more and more young people seeking to become influencers, universities are responding by providing the necessary education and training to help them succeed.
