Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County Announces CEO Charles Wolford’s Departure

Fort Worth, Texas – The board of Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County announced Friday that its chief executive officer, Charles M. Wolford II, will part ways with the nonprofit. Caroline Samis, chair of the organization’s board, conveyed the decision to the Fort Worth Report and expressed gratitude for Wolford’s two‑year tenure.

Board’s Statement

“We are thankful to Charles for his service to our organization. And we pray for his continued service to God’s kingdom,” Samis said in a written statement. She added that Wolford’s departure will not affect the day‑to‑day operations of the mission and that a nationwide search for a new CEO has already begun.

Wolford’s Background

Wolford joined Union Gospel Mission in 2024 after the former CEO, Don Shisler, stepped down into a CEO emeritus role. Prior to his work with the mission, Wolford spent more than twenty years ministering to families and adults experiencing homelessness. He served as pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and Crosspoint Bible Fellowship in Dallas, and held leadership positions at Promise House in Dallas and City House in Plano, both organizations focused on addressing homelessness.

Impact on the Community

The mission provides shelter, meals, counseling, and job‑training services to hundreds of individuals each year across Tarrant County. Local faith‑based leaders and volunteers have praised the organization’s role in stabilizing families and helping adults transition out of homelessness. Samis emphasized that the organization’s programs will continue uninterrupted while the board conducts a thorough search for a successor.

Next Steps

The board has formed a search committee composed of community leaders, donors, and former staff members. The committee will evaluate candidates with experience in nonprofit management, faith‑based outreach, and homelessness services. Samis indicated that the board hopes to announce a new CEO before the end of the calendar year.

Contact Attempts

The Fort Worth Report attempted to reach Wolford for comment via email, phone, social media, and LinkedIn, but did not receive a response before publication. Wolford’s profile has been removed from the organization’s “Meet the Team” page, and a direct email to the address listed on the nonprofit’s website bounced.
