A Ukrainian woman, identified as 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska, is the main suspect in a bomb attack that wounded a Ukrainian tycoon in Monaco on Monday.
Investigation Details
According to local authorities, Berezovska disguised herself as a man and was last known to reside in Germany. She has a tattoo of a snake on her right arm from her shoulder to elbow.
After the attack, the suspect fled to neighboring France and then drove to Italy in a German-registered car that had been rented for the operation. Prosecutors believe that more than one perpetrator was involved in the attack due to the sophistication of the bomb used.
Two men were arrested in Monaco but were later released due to lack of evidence. The attack occurred in the entranceway of one of Monaco’s fanciest apartment buildings, targeting Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev.
A woman and a child were also injured in the blast. The identity of the woman and child remain unknown, but the injured woman is not Yermolaiev’s wife. One victim remains in a life-threatening condition, one is seriously injured, and the other sustained minor injuries.
Security in Monaco
The attack has shaken the city-state of Monaco, which is known for its high level of security. The city has 556 police officers and 1,387 CCTV cameras monitoring the area. Last year, there were no homicides or attempted murders in Monaco.
