Ukrainian Strikes Hit Russian Online Retailer

Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian online retailer Wildberries’ warehouses have caused significant economic damage, with potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in inventory lost. The strikes, which hit warehouses in the Moscow region and other parts of Russia, have disrupted the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Russians.

Impact on Russian Economy

The attacks on Wildberries, which is often referred to as ‘Russia’s Amazon,’ have brought the war in Ukraine closer to home for many Russians. The company’s founder, Tatyana Kim, has said that the company is discussing possible tax relief and other measures with Russian authorities to aid sellers affected by the attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that Ukraine carried out the attacks, saying that the warehouses were being used to supply Russia’s military with sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment. The Russian government has denied that Wildberries supplies the Russian military, but a search of the company’s website found over 78,000 items, including body armor, first aid kits, and rations.

International Reaction

The strikes on Wildberries have sparked an online debate, with some Russians expressing outrage and others calling for an end to the war in Ukraine. Ukrainian commentators have pointed out that the attacks are a response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and that Russians should direct their anger at President Vladimir Putin.
