Ukraine Drone Strike Hits Russian Oil Hub

A Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and injured three others in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region on Saturday. Local governor Veniamin Kondratyev said falling drone debris started a fire at a sea terminal. While he didn’t provide specifics, Russian news outlets reported the damage happened in the village of Volna at an export terminal that handles crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied gas.

Escalating Conflict

The strike is part of an ongoing campaign by Kyiv to hit military and energy targets deep inside Russian territory. Ukraine’s General Staff didn’t specifically mention the Krasnodar strike on Saturday. However, they did confirm that their forces hit an oil preparation and pumping station in the Volgograd region overnight, along with targets in Russian-occupied parts of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Meanwhile, Russian forces launched their own strikes across the border. In Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, drones and aerial bombs targeted three districts more than 20 times, according to a Saturday Telegram post by regional head Oleksandr Hanzha. The attacks set a local marketplace on fire and injured nine people. Six people were sent to the hospital, including one man in critical condition.

Global Implications

The front line, which stretches over 620 miles, has barely moved after more than four years of fighting. Swarms of drones make it hard for either side to advance, forcing both armies to rely heavily on long-range strikes. These deep strikes are pushing Moscow to respond. Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to improve air defenses after a Ukrainian attack set a St. Petersburg oil terminal on fire and hit a nearby naval base.

Both Trump and Zelenskyy are set to attend the upcoming Group of Seven summit in Evian-les-Bains. However, there are currently no plans for them to hold a one-on-one meeting. A senior U.S. administration official, speaking anonymously under White House ground rules, confirmed the scheduling to reporters.
