Bo Nickal, a UFC star, recently shared his journey to the UFC on the ‘Hang Out with Sean Hannity’ podcast. Growing up, Nickal was inspired by the tough wrestlers and fighters around him, including his grandfather, who had cauliflower ear. Nickal saw cauliflower ear as a badge of toughness and aspired to have it himself.
Early Life and Career
Nickal fell in love with wrestling at a young age and went on to become a three-time NCAA wrestling champion. His mother wasn’t thrilled about his interest in combat sports, but Nickal found role models in the tough wrestlers and fighters around him. He said, ‘I wanted [cauliflower ear] because the toughest guys I know all have cauliflower ear. I want to be like that.’
Nickal’s conversation with Hannity traced his path from a blue-collar upbringing and youth wrestling mats to the UFC Octagon. He will face Kyle Daukaus in the ring on June 14 as part of UFC Freedom 250 on the White House’s South Lawn.
