UFC Fight Set for White House South Lawn on Flag Day

In an unprecedented event, the White House South Lawn will transform into a UFC fighting arena on June 14, marking a unique celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. This event coincides with Flag Day and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

Event Details

Construction crews are currently setting up a fight cage and a massive lighting grid, known as ‘The Claw,’ on the South Lawn. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is organizing the event, which will feature high-profile fights, including Justin Gaethje vs. Ilia Topuria and Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane. The event is free and ticketed, with a significant portion of tickets reserved for military members and their families.

Community and Military Involvement

The White House has allocated a third of the tickets for military members, a third for White House staff, and a third for VIPs. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that the organization is covering the costs of the event, emphasizing the opportunity for brand exposure despite the estimated $60 million expense.

Public and Celebrity Attendance

In addition to the fights, the event will include meet-and-greets with UFC athletes, a Zac Brown Band concert, and a ceremonial weigh-in. Several celebrities, including Tom Brady and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, have been invited. The general public can attend a watch party on the Ellipse, with 85,000 tickets available.

Weather Considerations

Weather remains a concern for the outdoor event. UFC plans to work closely with the U.S. military to monitor weather conditions and adjust the schedule if necessary. The only weather condition that could postpone the event is lightning.

Reactions and Criticism

The event has sparked mixed reactions. While some see it as a unique celebration, others, including Democratic politicians, have criticized the focus on the event amid other national concerns. Despite the criticisms, the event is expected to draw significant attention and attendance.
