A 27-year-old college student was arrested following an encounter with campus police at the University of Central Florida, according to bodycam footage released Friday by Inside The Blue TV.

Incident Details

The incident, which occurred in February 2025, began when a UCF officer investigating a vehicle theft report encountered Jarrett Vick of Treasure Island. Video footage shows Vick shouting at the officer near the start of the recording.

“Why do you let those kids get away with this? They are not supposed to be here,” Vick said in the video. The responding officer instructed Vick to lower his voice.

“If you don’t lower your voice, I am going to put handcuffs on you and I’m going to take you to a Baker Act facility,” the officer said on the recording. After Vick declined to lower his voice, the officer requested backup, telling dispatch that a student was having a breakdown.

During the interaction, Vick yelled at the officer, “Just say the right pronoun.” The officer drew pepper spray and ordered Vick to the ground. A university employee identified as Josh attempted to intervene and calm the situation.

“Josh, can you please just tell them to use the right pronouns?” Vick said on the footage. “Please. You know, it’s causing me a lot of distress.” The officer deployed pepper spray after Vick refused orders to settle down.

Responding officers subsequently restrained Vick on the ground and used a Taser to place him in handcuffs. During the restraint, Vick shouted, “just say she.” Police booked Vick on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Aftermath

Court records show Vick pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Orange County records list the cases as closed following a court appearance on Jan. 16. In a statement to the New York Post, Vick said police had harassed him and attributed the subsequent media coverage to the officers’ actions.
