Demolition is continuing this week on an iconic piece of the University of Cincinnati’s main campus. The former Crosley Tower building is coming down, making way for a new 200,000-square-foot STEM facility, with classrooms and labs for students to use.
Construction Plans
The construction will transform the campus entrance facing Burnet Woods. UC said the demolition is now more than halfway through and is expected to wrap up in February. Once it’s demolished, construction can start on the first academic building that will face Martin Luther King Drive.
“UC’s continued growth reflects the confidence students, families and employers have in the value of a UC education,” UC President Neville Pinto said. “And the new STEM Academic Facility is a direct response to our growth.”
The building is named after UC alum and Cincinnati businessman Powel Crosley. The tower opened in 1969 as a laboratory and research facility for the College of Arts and Sciences.
