Former Alabama starting quarterback Ty Simpson made a strong impression in his NFL preseason debut, leading the Los Angeles Rams to a 20-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City. Simpson took over late in the first quarter and finished out the contest, completing 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
Simpson’s Performance
Simpson’s second touchdown came with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, as he found his running back Dean Conners on a Texas route to ice the game for the Rams. Simpson is competing with former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett for the Rams’ backup quarterback position behind reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford.
Simpson started one season with the Crimson Tide but spent four total in Tuscaloosa, completing 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns during the 2025 season, where he led Alabama to an 11-4 record. The Rams’ next preseason game will be on Saturday, August 22, when Los Angeles hosts the New Orleans Saints at 3:00 p.m.
