The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is hosting a car seat checkup event in Lubbock on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at the YWCA of Lubbock.
Car Seat Safety Importance
Properly buckling a child into a car seat can be tricky, especially for new parents. According to TxDOT, two out of every three safety seats are not used correctly by parents.
Certified car seat technicians will be at the event to teach parents, caregivers, and guardians the proper way to buckle small children into car seats. Parents are asked to bring the current car seat they are using, as well as the child’s age and size.
In Texas, children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat while in the vehicle. Common mistakes when using car seats include the harness straps being placed through the wrong slots, the chest clip not being correctly positioned, and the harness being too loose.
