Two Injured in Shooting Outside Eden Prairie High School Homecoming Game

Two individuals were wounded early Friday evening when gunfire erupted outside Aerie Stadium at Eden Prairie High School during the highly anticipated homecoming football matchup between Eden Prairie and Minnetonka.

Police Response and Investigation

According to a news release from the Eden Prairie Police Department, officers arrived on scene at approximately 8:40 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots. Responding deputies located two victims with injuries that were described as non‑life‑threatening and transported them to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.

The department confirmed that neither victim was a student at Eden Prairie or Minnetonka High Schools. Police indicated the shooting is believed to have been targeted, though no arrests have been announced as of Friday night.

Impact on the Homecoming Event

Following the incident, school officials suspended the football game and began evacuating the stadium. The game was later resumed on Saturday morning after the area was cleared and safety protocols were re‑established.

A post on the Eden Prairie Schools Facebook page expressed the community’s mixed emotions: “Tonight was a hard night for our community. A night that was meant to celebrate all that makes us Eagles was tarnished by the selfish and violent acts of a few. And yet, in this moment, we saw our community shine.” The statement highlights both the sorrow over the violence and the resilience shown by residents, parents, and students.

Community Reaction

Local leaders and neighborhood groups quickly gathered to offer support to the victims and their families. Several faith‑based organizations have pledged prayer and assistance, underscoring the city’s strong Christian values and commitment to caring for one another.

Parents and alumni have also voiced concern for school safety, calling for continued vigilance and cooperation with law‑enforcement to prevent future incidents. While the investigation remains ongoing, the Eden Prairie Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward.

Looking Ahead

The homecoming celebration will continue with a focus on unity and gratitude for the safety of the broader community. School officials plan to hold a brief assembly on Monday to address the incident, honor the victims, and reaffirm the district’s dedication to a secure learning environment.

As the investigation proceeds, residents are reminded to stay alert, report suspicious activity, and support one another in these challenging moments.
