Two 13‑year‑old boys critically injured after electric motor vehicle collision in Bloomfield Hills

Bloomfield Township, MI – On Monday at noon, two 13‑year‑old boys from Bloomfield Hills were critically injured when a pickup truck collided with the e‑moto vehicle they were riding together. The crash occurred at the Telegraph and Hickory Grove crosswalk, a busy intersection that serves many school‑age pedestrians.

What happened

According to Bloomfield Township police, the boys were traveling westbound on an electric motor‑vehicle, commonly referred to as an e‑moto, when a 35‑year‑old Rochester Hills man driving a Ford F‑250 pickup truck headed south on Telegraph. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Response and medical care

Bloomfield Township Fire Department quickly arrived and transported the juveniles to two area hospitals. One boy was taken to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital, while the other was taken to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. Both patients are listed in critical condition.

Investigation underway

The Bloomfield Township Police Department’s Traffic Division, together with the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team, is conducting a thorough investigation. Police are reviewing traffic‑camera footage, witness statements, and the vehicle’s speed at the time of impact. Anyone who saw the crash or has relevant information is urged to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248‑433‑7755.

Community impact

Bloomfield Hills and the surrounding Oakland County communities are rallying around the families of the injured boys. Local churches have already organized prayer vigils, and several neighborhood groups are offering meals and transportation assistance to the families while they navigate the hospital stays.

Safety reminders for parents and teens

Officials remind parents that e‑moto vehicles, while popular among teens for their convenience, are subject to the same traffic laws as bicycles and scooters. Wearing helmets, using designated crosswalks, and staying visible are essential steps to reduce the risk of serious injury. The township encourages drivers to remain vigilant, especially in school zones and residential areas where young pedestrians are common.

Looking ahead

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released a preliminary determination of fault. The police department will release a full report once the analysis is complete. In the meantime, community members are asked to respect the privacy of the families and allow law‑enforcement officials to conduct their work without interference.
