The Greensboro Avenue Streetscape Project in downtown Tuscaloosa is on track, with Phase One and Phase Two substantially complete. The $4.3 million Elevate Tuscaloosa project aims to improve pedestrian access and safety in the area.
Project Progress
The northbound lane of Greensboro Avenue, adjacent bay parking, and the sidewalk between Gary Fitts Street and University Boulevard have been reopened. Gas relocation has also been completed. Additionally, sidewalk construction has been finished between Swag and the former Downtown Trading Company.
Refurbishment of traffic signals and light poles is almost complete, and signage has already been updated in the entire reconstruction area. Roadway work in the Phase Three and Phase Four work zones is expected to be substantially complete by the end of the week.
To assist downtown businesses and shoppers, the sidewalk along the east side of Greensboro Avenue will remain open between 7th Street and Gary Fitts Street. The project is expected to be complete by the first Alabama Football weekend in early September.
