The Tuscaloosa City Council has transferred $1.3 million to the Saban Center to fund a rooftop event space. The money was initially slated for repairs and upgrades at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater but was reassigned due to lower-than-expected costs.
Saban Center Details
The rooftop facility will be used primarily for Saban Center fundraising activities, but it will also be available for rent by other groups, organizations, and individuals. The event space is expected to be popular due to its rooftop view of the Tuscaloosa Riverfront and its location in downtown Tuscaloosa.
The $1.3 million terrace will be part of the 118,000 square-foot, $74 million Saban Center, which will serve as a STEM education facility. The center will feature interactive education exhibits and will include IGNITE, formerly the Children’s Hands-on Museum.
The city council approved the fund transfer, which was recommended by the Public Projects and Finance Committee. The Saban Center is on schedule to open in mid-2027.
