The Tuscaloosa County Branch of the NAACP is preparing for its 2026 Juneteenth events, a celebration of freedom, history, and culture. According to Lisa Young, President of the Tuscaloosa County Branch of the NAACP, “Each year, Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not just a moment in history but a continuing journey.”
Living Legend Luncheon
The Living Legend Luncheon will be held on Friday, June 19, at noon at Shelton State Community College’s C.A. Fredd Campus. The luncheon will honor Ms. Sarah “Sue” Thompson for her commitment to public education, school desegregation, and teacher representation.
Juneteenth Parade
The Juneteenth Community Parade will be held on Saturday, June 20, with participants arriving for the lineup at 9 a.m. at Westlawn Middle School. The parade will feature local organizations, community groups, and marching bands, with Donna Foster and Jared White serving as Grand Marshals.
Juneteenth Community Day Celebration
The community day celebration has been moved to the McDonald Hughes Community Center due to extreme heat. The event will feature live entertainment, food vendors, community organizations, and activities for children and families, with a focus on fellowship and celebration of culture and heritage.
