The Tuscaloosa County Branch of the NAACP will host its annual Living Legend Luncheon on Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This year, the event will honor Ms. Sarah “Sue” Thompson for her decades of service and leadership in championing civil rights, equal opportunity, and educational equity.
A Legacy of Advocacy
Sarah Thompson, born and raised in West Tuscaloosa, is celebrated for her pioneering efforts in the legal profession and her unwavering commitment to justice. After graduating from The University of Alabama and Alabama Law, she co-founded Forte, Thompson & England in 1974, the first Black law firm in Tuscaloosa. Her work has inspired generations, particularly in the legal community.
Throughout her career with Legal Services Alabama, Thompson has been a steadfast advocate for underserved communities, focusing on employment discrimination and promoting equal justice under the law. Her dedication to public education, school desegregation, and teacher representation has left a significant impact on Tuscaloosa and beyond.

The community is invited to join the Tuscaloosa County Branch of the NAACP in celebrating Juneteenth and recognizing Thompson’s contributions at the Living Legend Luncheon.
