A White House employee is under investigation for potential insider trading, according to sources familiar with the matter. The employee, Gabriel Perez, is President Trump’s longtime teleprompter operator and has been working with him for over a decade.
Investigation Details
The investigation is being conducted by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which regulates prediction markets. Perez allegedly made trades on the prediction site Kalshi that were flagged for possible insider activity. The trades were on ‘mention markets,’ where users can bet on which words and phrases public figures, including Trump, will say at speeches and events.
According to sources, Perez made over $90,000 in profits from the trades in question, but the profits have been frozen. Kalshi’s head of enforcement, Robert DeNault, stated that the company’s surveillance team promptly flagged and referred the trades to the CFTC, and they are cooperating with regulators.
Perez has cooperated with the CFTC investigation, according to one of the sources. The White House has strict ethics guidelines that all staffers and officials are expected to follow, and the staffer in question is fully cooperating with the CFTC.
