President Donald Trump’s push to beautify Washington, D.C. has encountered obstacles, including the recent issue with the Meridian Hill Park fountain. The fountain, which was renovated in May at a cost of $4 million, has turned a murky, rust-orange hue.
Renovation and Reaction
The fountain’s brown color has raised concerns among residents and visitors. ‘It looks like mud,’ said James Langan, a New York resident visiting D.C. Despite the issue, some residents appreciate the running water, even with the discoloration. ‘I think it’s nice to have, especially in the heat in the summer,’ said Washington, D.C. resident Jedi Sworobuk.
The Interior Department attributed the brown water to sediment from the reopening of two water lines that had been out of service for some time. Workers were observed cleaning the cascading basins, and the water was less orange by Saturday. The Meridian Hill Park issue is part of Trump’s broader effort to make D.C. ‘safe and beautiful,’ which includes the renovation of several fountains across the city.
