However, Governor Kathy Hochul’s campaign maintains that violent crime has spiked in Nassau County, citing data reported to the state. The campaign spokesman stated that Governor Hochul has invested billions in public safety, while criticizing Blakeman for letting crime rise.

Nassau County’s Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder reported that major crime has decreased by 9.5% in 2024 and 10.5% in 2025, with further decreases in 2026. A designated protest zone has been established at Stewart Avenue and Endo Boulevard, about half a mile from the police academy.
