President Donald Trump announced that the Qatari-donated jet serving as Air Force One will be upgraded to address security concerns. The plane, which was gifted to the United States, has been the subject of scrutiny over its missile-defense capabilities.
Security Concerns
Trump stated that the plane will be sent for upgrades in about a month, which will enhance its security features. This decision comes after the President unexpectedly ditched the jet during his return from a NATO summit in Turkey, citing the need to give US service members stationed at a base in England a chance to tour the aircraft.
According to sources, security personnel felt more comfortable with the President aboard an older plane, which was built with the commander-in-chief’s safety in mind. The newer plane, which was retrofitted after being donated by Qatar, did not possess the same capabilities to ensure its safety in international settings.
