President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he will nominate Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and Marine, to be the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Trump called Schroyer a “proven leader” with over 29 years of law enforcement experience in Oklahoma.
Background and Experience
Schroyer has firsthand experience getting illegal immigrants off the streets, according to Trump. He worked alongside state and federal partners under the 287(g) program, which allows ICE to authorize state and local law enforcement officers to perform specific immigration enforcement duties under the federal agency’s supervision.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin expressed confidence in Schroyer’s ability to lead ICE, citing his strong leadership and experience. Mullin emphasized the need for the Senate to quickly confirm Schroyer, as the agency has been without a Senate-confirmed leader for 11 years.
