Madison Square Garden will transform into a high-security zone as Donald Trump attends Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The unprecedented visit has triggered massive security protocols, forcing New York Knicks fans to navigate multiple checkpoints and an extensive police perimeter to see their team face off against the San Antonio Spurs.
Security Measures
The New York Police Department and the Secret Service have shut down several blocks surrounding the Garden, instituting a strict no-bag policy for all ticket-holders. To manage the bottleneck, officials instructed fans to arrive at least two hours before tip-off. Spectators must present a ticket just to pass outer street checkpoints before undergoing TSA-style magnetometer screenings at the doors.
The heightened security has also forced the cancellation of the outdoor watch party directly outside the arena, which has drawn crowds during the Knicks’ 13-game winning streak. Instead, the official gathering is being relocated several blocks away to Bryant Park.
Player Reactions
When asked about the president’s upcoming arrival, Knicks center Mitchell Robinson remained focused on the matchup. “Cool, I guess,” Robinson said. “We can still get out there and play [no matter] who’s here and who’s not.”
Players also noted the resilience of the local fan base, who are cheering on the franchise’s first Finals appearance since 1999 and chasing their first championship title since 1973.
