OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has restricted the release of its new artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.6 Sol, at the request of President Donald Trump’s administration. The model will only be available to a small group of trusted partners approved by the Trump administration during a cybersecurity review.
Cybersecurity Concerns
The Trump administration has grown increasingly concerned about the potential cybersecurity risks of advanced AI systems. Earlier this month, the administration took action against OpenAI rival Anthropic, maker of the Claude chatbot, which was forced to take offline two new AI models due to concerns about their potential use by malicious hackers.
OpenAI said its new Sol model is better at helping people find and fix vulnerabilities than it is at carrying out cyberattacks and does not cross the company’s own risk threshold. However, the company acknowledged that there could be unforeseen risks, especially if its model is combined with other tools.
