Troy, Ala. – Troy University announced today that a 14‑member search committee has been formed to launch a national search for the institution’s next chancellor. The committee brings together representatives from the Board of Trustees, senior administration, the student body, alumni and local civic leaders, ensuring a broad range of perspectives in the selection process.
Committee leadership and purpose
Gibson Vance, President Pro Tempore of the university’s Board of Trustees, will chair the committee. “Selecting Troy University’s next chancellor is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to the Board of Trustees,” Vance said. “We are seeking a leader who will build on TROY’s accomplishments during Dr. Hawkins’ 37 years as chancellor, advance its mission and guide the University into its next chapter.”
Retirement of Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr.
The search follows the announced retirement of Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., who will step down after nearly four decades of service. His last day is scheduled for June 30, 2027. Hawkins reflected on his tenure, noting, “Troy University is a special institution with a unique culture. It has been a tremendous honor for my wife, Janice, and I to be a part of this community for nearly 40 years. I am confident the search committee and Board of Trustees will identify the right leader to build on TROY’s success and guide its continued growth.”

The university has retained Funk Associates, a higher‑education search consulting firm, to assist in identifying and evaluating potential candidates.
