Pasco County treasure hunters are searching for a legendary $200 million Spanish treasure believed to be buried in the early 1800s on a remote island off Pasco County.
The Expedition
Captain Joe Zsiga and his team with EPIC Treasure Hunters traveled by boat to the island, inspired by tales of buried treasure that have been passed down for centuries.
The team believes that the treasure, which includes Spanish silver, gold, and emeralds, may still lie beneath the island.
The Search
The search quickly turned into a hike through dense brush, with the team facing dangers such as wild boar, water moccasins, and rattlesnakes.
The team used modern equipment, including metal detectors, as well as dowsing rods, which they believe can help locate buried treasure.
Next Steps
The team’s efforts led to a muddy excavation pit, but high water levels halted further digging.
Captain Joe says that digging any deeper will require much more than hand shovels, and the team plans to return with a bulldozer and equipment to pump water from the pit before resuming the excavation.
