Travis Kelce Becomes Minority Investor in Cleveland Guardians

Travis Kelce, known for his impressive NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, has expanded his horizons by becoming a minority investor in the Cleveland Guardians. This move marks a significant homecoming for Kelce, who hails from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

The announcement was made before the Guardians’ game against the Washington Nationals, revealing that Kelce has purchased a minority share of David Blitzer’s 35% stake in the franchise. Blitzer, along with majority owner Paul Dolan, welcomed Kelce’s involvement, highlighting his commitment to Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.

Kelce expressed his excitement on the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. “The opportunity came across my desk and I just couldn’t say no,” he said. “These guys gave me the opportunity to show my Cleveland love and plant my roots in Cleveland forever, no matter what.”

Kelce’s connection to Cleveland runs deep. He excelled in sports at Cleveland Heights High School, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. His love for the Guardians, formerly known as the Indians, was evident as he recounted childhood memories of attending games and idolizing players like Albert Belle and Jim Thome.

As part of his new role, Kelce is set to throw the first pitch at the Guardians’ game against the Detroit Tigers on June 14. This follows a previous attempt in 2023, where his pitch humorously spiked near the plate.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, despite being a San Francisco 49ers fan, expressed enthusiasm about Kelce joining the organization. “It’s pretty cool to have Kelce on board,” Vogt remarked, acknowledging Kelce’s impact both on and off the field.

Kelce’s involvement with the Guardians is not his first venture into baseball ownership. His teammate, Patrick Mahomes, also holds a stake in a Major League Baseball team, the Kansas City Royals. Mahomes congratulated Kelce on social media, sharing a video of Kelce’s first pitch.

This investment not only strengthens Kelce’s ties to his hometown but also underscores his dedication to uplifting the Cleveland community through sports and business.
