Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy launches family road‑trip series on YouTube

The Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that its new reality series, Great American Road Trip, is now available on YouTube. The six‑episode program follows Secretary Sean Duffy, his wife Rachel Campos‑Duffy—co‑host of Fox & Friends—and their nine children as they travel through seven states, showcasing local attractions and encouraging family travel.

Series details and rollout

The series was originally slated for a June release to coincide with the nation’s 250th‑birthday celebrations in July. A Department spokesperson said the delay was intentional, noting that “America’s 250th birthday is a year‑long celebration.” The episodes were posted on the official DOT YouTube channel on August 16, 2026.

Each 30‑minute episode highlights a different region. The premiere begins in Philadelphia, featuring a brief stop at the Oval Office to greet President Donald Trump. Subsequent episodes travel to Massachusetts, Wyoming, Montana, South Carolina, Texas and Arizona, offering viewers a cross‑section of American landscapes and cultural sites.

Funding and criticism

Critics in Congress, primarily Democrats, raised concerns that the series was being produced at a time of elevated gasoline prices linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran, arguing that the show could appear tone‑deaf to families facing higher travel costs. Additional scrutiny focused on the program’s sponsors—Boeing, Shell, Toyota, United Airlines and Royal Caribbean—citing potential conflicts of interest given the Department’s regulatory authority over those industries.

In response, Rachel Campos‑Duffy posted on X in May, stating that “all production costs were paid for by the non‑profit, The Great American Road Trip, Inc. No one in my family – including my husband – were paid to do this.” The nonprofit, identified as a 501(c)(4) organization, claims to operate independently of the Department.

Family and faith perspective

Secretary Duffy has long promoted family travel as a way to strengthen American values and community ties. At a DOT event last year, he told attendees, “There’s nothing more Americana than a road trip.” The series aligns with that message, presenting the Duffy family’s experiences as a model of wholesome, faith‑centered family life on the road.

While the show is a federal initiative, its emphasis on family, faith and traditional values resonates with audiences seeking positive, faith‑affirming content. The episodes also feature brief moments of prayer and gratitude, reflecting the Duffy family’s public expressions of Christian belief.

Public reaction

Early viewer feedback on YouTube has been mixed. Supporters praise the series for highlighting lesser‑known destinations and encouraging family outings. Detractors question the timing amid rising fuel costs and the involvement of corporate sponsors with regulatory oversight.

Regardless of the debate, the series adds a new media dimension to the Department of Transportation’s outreach efforts, aiming to connect citizens with the nation’s diverse regions while reinforcing the idea that travel can be a family‑building activity.

What’s next

The Department plans to promote the series through social‑media campaigns and partnerships with local tourism boards. No additional episodes have been announced, but the DOT indicated that the nonprofit partner may consider expanding the concept if viewership remains strong.
