A viral bodycam video shows a transgender University of Central Florida student, Jarrett Vick, being pepper-sprayed, tased, and arrested after a confrontation with campus police escalated when the student accused an officer of misgendering.
Confrontation Over Pronouns
The February 5, 2025, footage shows the student shouting at an officer inside a campus building after police reportedly responded to a disturbance. The student became combative with officers when they arrived, according to a UCF Police Department spokesperson.
The officer warned the student to calm down or face being placed in handcuffs and taken to a Baker Act facility, which is reserved for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. The student immediately objected to the officer’s pronoun use, screaming, ‘She! She! Just say the right pronoun!’
The pronoun dispute continued even as officers tried to put the student in handcuffs. At one point, an officer warned, ‘I’m gonna spray her,’ before the student became enraged. The student was eventually tased and handcuffed before being placed in a patrol vehicle.
Vick was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting an officer with violence, according to a UCF Police Department spokesperson. Vick pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Orange County records listed the cases as closed.
