A 12-year-old girl died from injuries she suffered Tuesday at Raleigh Beach, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl was pulled from the water around 11:30 a.m. and rushed to the hospital. The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has not released the girl’s name.
Raleigh Beach is a stretch of the Neuse River popular with swimmers and kayakers. At least four people drowned there in 2024, prompting the city of Raleigh to implement safety measures, including warning signs in English and Spanish and a gate to restrict vehicle access.
Sheriff Willie Rowe said, “On behalf of the entire Wake County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family. Please keep all who have been affected by this tragedy in your prayers.”
