Drivers traveling on Interstate 25 through Albuquerque will experience significant traffic pattern changes starting this week. As part of a major roadway improvement project, crews are shifting northbound lanes between Candelaria Road and Montgomery Boulevard toward the center median. This adjustment allows construction crews to continue work on the outside lanes.
Upcoming Changes
The traffic shift is set to begin as early as Thursday night, June 4. Southbound traffic will undergo a similar shift starting the night of June 12. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the I-25 corridor while maintaining traffic flow during construction activities.
Transportation officials have announced that drivers can expect overnight lane and ramp closures during the traffic shift operations. These closures will generally occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to minimize impacts on daytime travel. Once the shifts are completed, three travel lanes in each direction will remain open during daytime hours between Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard.
Safety Measures
Officials have also stated that the speed limit will remain reduced to 55 mph throughout the construction zone. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while traveling through the area to ensure safety for both drivers and construction workers.
