Toys “R” Us Announces 120 New Stores Nationwide for Holiday Season

The holiday shopping season is fast approaching, and Toys “R” Us is gearing up to serve families nationwide. In a recent press release, the retailer announced plans to open 120 new stores throughout the United States, a move designed to bring its classic toy selection closer to shoppers in a variety of settings.

National rollout and partnership strategy

Jamie Uitdenhowen, executive vice president of Toys “R” Us at WHP Global, called the expansion “a major moment” for the brand. He explained that the new locations will be created in partnership with Go! Retail Group, allowing the company to open stores in diverse venues such as standalone storefronts, airport terminals, Navy Exchanges and existing shop‑in‑shop spaces inside Macy’s.

What shoppers can expect

Each new standalone store will carry a curated assortment of the season’s most popular toys, including LEGO building sets, Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels cars, Pokémon collectibles and K‑Pop Demon Hunters merchandise. Select locations will also feature “Creator Studios,” dedicated spaces where influencers, toy makers and brands can produce content, unveil new products and host special events.

Creator Studios are slated for high‑traffic destinations such as American Dream in New Jersey, Mall of America in Minnesota, Camarillo Premium Outlets in California, Denver Premium Outlets in Colorado and Chicago Premium Outlets in Illinois. In addition, some stores will incorporate candy shops and cafés, giving families a place to enjoy treats while they browse.

Airport and military presence

Beyond traditional retail sites, Toys “R” Us will open a shop‑in‑shop location at Orlando International Airport (MCO) in partnership with WHSmith North America, scheduled to launch in the summer of 2027. The brand also plans to expand its presence within Navy Exchanges, providing service members and their families with convenient access to its product lineup.

Uncertainty about permanence

While the announcement details the scale of the rollout, the company has not yet confirmed whether all new stores will remain open year‑round after the holiday season. Toys “R” Us did not respond to a request for comment on the long‑term status of the locations.

Impact on local economies

The expansion is expected to generate new jobs in retail, logistics and hospitality across the country. Communities gaining a Toys “R” Us store will benefit from increased foot traffic, especially in outlet malls and airport terminals, which can boost surrounding businesses.

For families looking to get a head start on holiday gift‑giving, the new stores promise a convenient, one‑stop destination for the latest toys and family‑friendly amenities. As the season approaches, shoppers are encouraged to check local listings for the nearest new Toys “R” Us location.
