Toyota is recalling more than half a million vehicles due to an issue with the cars’ instrument cluster display, which may increase the risk of a crash. An error may occur in the affected cars’ startup sequence for the combination meter, causing the feature to go blank.
Affected Models
The recall affects 508,354 2025-2026 Toyota Camry Hybrids produced between August 15, 2024, and June 9. Not all the vehicles in the range were sold in the United States, the notice states.
The condition affects cars equipped with a 7-inch combination meter, which controls certain vehicle functions and displays various information in the instrument panel. Similar Toyota and Lexus models have a combination meter with different software, leaving them unaffected.
The blank instrument cluster can occur randomly at startup, the company said. A blank combination meter can reduce a driver’s recognition of conditions, as it represents them using certain telltales/indicators. This issue may increase the risk of a crash by possibly preventing road users from understanding which way a driver is going.
Remedy
The company is notifying all known owners of the cars and asking them to bring their vehicles to a Toyota dealer, where the software will be updated free of charge. Owners of the affected vehicles are expected to receive notification letters in the mail by September 21. They may also contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
